Exocortex
Keep personal records in an offline Android archive. Export selected records for an AI and review its proposals before accepting changes.

An archive independent of your AI
Records stay in an archive on your device. Source details distinguish stored material from later interpretations. You can use different external AI tools without giving them direct access to the archive.
Add, organise and find records
Add a note, attach a file or import a supported provider export. Inbox also gathers available new images, videos and downloads for you to file into the part of your life they belong to.
- Organise by record type. People, writings, conversations, AI sessions, journal entries, media, locations, health records and more have their own places.
- Search records. Search across modules, narrow by time, and search titles throughout the Media hierarchy.
- Keep source information. Source details, attachment metadata and revisions help you distinguish a record from an interpretation of it.
- Back up or export. Export records and attachments for backup, restoration or use outside the app.

Keep evidence distinct from interpretation
A conversation can be evidence for a claim about your life without making that claim true. Exocortex distinguishes four kinds of standing:
Raw
The source record: what was captured or imported, with its origin.
Extracted
Information parsed from a source, still traceable to that source.
Inferred
An interpretation or proposal, kept distinguishable from the evidence behind it.
Confirmed
Something you have explicitly accepted. Your confirmation records a decision; it is not proof.
These are distinctions in the evidence model, not an automatic pipeline that turns every record into a fact. An accepted AI classification can still be marked as inferred.
Use AI with selected records
The current app uses a deliberate file exchange. You can use an external AI without connecting it to the whole archive.
Ask a question
Choose your question and the records to include. The packet defines which proposals this version can accept.
Share the packet
Export that finite context and give it to the external tool you choose. Its privacy and retention terms apply to what you share.
Import the response
Import the structured response. The app checks it against the packet’s authorization and quarantines invalid returns.
Review and apply proposals
Review valid proposals before applying them. The app can check a response’s structure and scope; it cannot establish that the reasoning is true.
Purpose and longer-term goals
Exocortex is a transhumanist project: an attempt to extend what a person can remember, inspect and bring into thought. The longer-term aim is personal cognitive infrastructure that can work with different intelligences while you retain control over access, interpretation and change.
The archive is evidence about a person, not the person. It is partial, and a model built from it remains a reconstruction. Preserving records does not establish that a living person can be copied or continued in another medium.
This connects to the questions explored in Epistemic Forge: how traces constrain a model of an agent, how narrow our access to ourselves can be, and what personal continuity would require.
A connected companion and deeper integration remain future work. The APK is available to test; no public reuse licence has yet been adopted for the app. Licensing and development standing.
